STEM
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) plays an important role in learning throughout our school. We are fortunate to have a wide range of STEM resources that support hands-on, engaging learning experiences for all pupils.
In the infant classes, children are introduced to coding concepts through the use of Blue-Bots, learning directional language and sequencing skills using arrow commands. As pupils progress to First and Second Class, they begin programming Blue-Bots independently, developing their computational thinking, problem-solving and logical reasoning skills. Through a variety of STEM activities, our pupils are encouraged to explore, investigate, create and collaborate, helping to foster curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.
STEM learning continues to develop throughout the senior classes, with pupils engaging in increasingly challenging and creative projects. From Third Class onwards, children work with LEGO® SPIKE, combining engineering, design and coding skills to build and programme a variety of interactive models. This hands-on approach encourages innovation, teamwork and critical thinking. Our pupils have proudly participated in the LEGO League, where they apply their STEM knowledge to real-world challenges and collaborate to develop creative solutions. In Fifth and Sixth Class, pupils have also taken part in Minecraft Education competitions, using digital technology to design, problem-solve and showcase their creativity in exciting STEM-based challenges.
